This beautiful bridge, also known as the Penghu Rainbow Bridge, has the original name "Xiying Hong Qiao," but is better known worldwide as the "Xiying Rainbow Bridge," which means the same as Xiying Hong Qiao.
The name "Xiying" was given to this rainbow bridge because it is located in the Guanyinting Beach Park area, which is also known by locals as "Xiying Shenjing (西瀛勝境)," meaning "The Most Beautiful Place in Xiying" or "Xiying Paradise." The name "Rainbow Bridge" comes from the bridge’s appearance at night, when colorful neon lights illuminate it, creating a rainbow-like effect that reflects on the water’s surface.

The Xiying Rainbow Bridge is constructed of steel and supported by extremely sturdy concrete pillars. One of the main attractions of the Xiying Rainbow Bridge is the LED lighting system that adorns its arched structure. Guanyinting (Guanyin Pavilion) is a Buddhist temple built to worship the Goddess Guanyin, or Kwan Im, a figure revered as the goddess of compassion in Chinese tradition. Interestingly, this temple is also used to worship Long Wang (龍王), the Dragon King, who is believed to rule over the seas and rain. This makes Guanyinting a place of worship that blends elements of Buddhist and Taoist beliefs.

The Guanyin Pavilion has a long history. The temple was first built in 1696, during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing Dynasty. Although it has been restored several times, the temple retains its traditional character as a center of worship and an important part of the local cultural heritage.
The Charm of Penghu Firework Festival Around Xiying Rainbow Bridge
The Penghu Fireworks Festival is an annual event that serves as the main attraction in the Penghu Islands, Taiwan. The festival, which began in 2003, typically runs from mid-spring to late summer—that is, from March or May through July or August. These spectacular drone light shows and fireworks displays are not held on the same dates every year. The Penghu International Fireworks Festival is divided into two sessions. During the first session (May–June), shows are held twice a week, every Monday and Thursday. During the second session, the schedule changes to once a week, specifically every Tuesday.

The fireworks festival takes place at Guanyinting Coast Park, a tourist area where the Xiying Rainbow Bridge is located. In addition to Guanyinting Coast Park (Guanyin Pavilion Coast Park), the festival is also held on the three outermost islands of the Penghu Islands: Jibei Island, Qimei Island, and Wangan Island. Each location offers its own unique charm, ranging from picturesque harbor backdrops to breathtaking views of the open sea. The performance schedules for these three islands differ from the main event. To help disperse the crowds, the Penghu County government also organizes fireworks displays on Huxy, Baisha, and Xiyu Islands, though these are limited to specific sessions. During the Penghu Fireworks Festival, fireworks displays are held only once on each of these islands.

In addition to the fireworks displays, the Penghu International Fireworks Festival also features a variety of modern performances and lively cultural entertainment. The festival also brings the surrounding area to life with a night market. In the afternoon, visitors begin to flock to the beach area to enjoy traditional Taiwanese night market snacks.
The main stage at the Guanyinting Recreation Area comes alive with live music performances in the evening. These musical performances usually begin before the highlight of the event at 21.00 local time—namely, the drone light show and fireworks display. At 18.00 local time, the seven-colored lights on the Xiying Rainbow Bridge will illuminate. The rainbow light it emits reflects off the bay’s water surface, creating a beautiful double rainbow effect.
One of the most anticipated main attractions is the spectacle of drones flying in unison across the night sky. These drones move in sync within specific formations, displaying breathtaking images against the night sky. The rainbow effect from the Xiying Rainbow Bridge further enhances the beauty of the visual illusion created by the drone formations. The drone light show typically lasts about 10 minutes.

As soon as the drone landed, a large-scale fireworks display was launched toward the bridge and the sea. The fireworks were set off in a choreographed sequence in time with the music, creating beautiful reflections on the surface of the sea. Throughout the festival, the Xiying Rainbow Bridge became one of the main attractions, adding to the festive atmosphere. The bridge’s colorful LED lights shone beautifully, creating a mesmerizing blend with the visual illusions produced by the drone formations and the sparkling fireworks exploding in the air.
Xiying Rainbow Bridge to Be Closed During the Penghu International Fireworks Festival
Xiying Rainbow Bridge will be temporarily closed to pedestrians during the Penghu International Fireworks Festival, as the bridge serves as the main launch site for the fireworks. The bridge area is being closed to ensure visitor safety from the risks posed by fireworks. Although visitors will not be able to walk across the bridge during the event, they can still gather at Guanyinting Waterfront Park, located right on the bay, to watch the bridge light up in vibrant colors as it blends with the fireworks in the sky.
